TOEFL
Almost all international applicants must submit official test score results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the Pearson Test of English (PTE-Academic). Test scores should be less than two years old. An applicant should submit the application within two years of the test date to ensure that the testing agency will be able to send an official score report.
Students who are citizens of the following English-speaking countries, or who have graduated from an English-speaking university within these countries, are exempt from this requirement: Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, and the United Kingdom.
Please note that some departments (i.e., Politics) have strict guidelines and may require English proficiency scores from all international applicants. Please check with the department to which you are applying to see if it is a requirement.
Minimum Score Requirements for English Proficiency Exam
Minimum scores for each exam are:
600 (paper-based TOEFL)
250 (computer-based TOEFL)
100 (internet-based TOEFL)

A statement of purpose indicating your reasons for undertaking graduate study. In addition, please describe your qualifications for the academic program. The statement of purpose should clearly describe one or two of your core reasons for going into teaching. Describe your relevant experience and other qualifications. Your statement should be 3-5 pages long.

A curriculum vitae (CV) or resumé that lists all colleges and universities attended, experiences with teaching, primary extracurricular activities and employment, detailing particularly those relevant to teaching Chinese; any honors or prizes awarded; and community service, publications or research projects with which you have been associated.
Fee
Applying Electronically (preferred method)A $75 application fee is required of all students who apply online. You will be prompted to pay via credit card immediately after submitting your application. Applications will not be reviewed by the graduate admission committee until your fee has been received and processed.2.Applying via Hard-Copy/Paper ApplicationPlease note that we strongly prefer applications to be submitted electronically. A $75 application fee is required of all students that apply via hard-copy or paper. Once the information from your paper application has been entered into the application system, you will receive an e-mail from our office prompting you to pay the application fee. Applications will not be reviewed by the graduate admission committee until your fee has been received and processed.

Two letters of recommendation, submitted electronically. One letter should address your academic/intellectual qualifications. There are no specific requirements for the second letter, but applicants with substantial work/professional experience should consider a letter from an employer;
Transcript
Transcripts from all universities and colleges attended must be uploaded to your application; do not mail official transcripts to our office.
