The Penn State graduate program in nuclear engineering is ranked 5th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report. One of the few universities in the U.S. with a working research reactor, Penn State offers students unique opportunities to learn and research in state-of-the-art experimental facilities under the supervision of internationally known faculty.
The energy area is a particular focus for our department. The nuclear power industry is facing challenges that must be addressed as we move to future reactor designs. Homeland security is another important thrust of nuclear-related research in MNE, particularly in the areas of radiation detection and nuclear sensing.
We have some of the top faculty in the country and in the world working on these very problems here at Penn State, and the University, the College of Engineering and the department provide graduate students the resources to be an integral part of that groundbreaking, future-changing research.
