The program's strengths lie in its location and facilities. The College Park campus is near the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the headquarters of the nuclear power unit of the Bechtel Corporation, and nuclear utilities in Maryland, in Virginia and southern Pennsylvania. The program hosts unique support facilities including a nuclear reactor, a gamma-irradiation facility and an electron linear accelerator.
