Mechanical engineering is the broadest of the engineering disciplines giving students a wide range of opportunities; its strong technical foundation makes opportunities available in both practice and research as well as non-engineering fields such as business, law or medicine.The Department's graduate research program is recognized internationally and includes many cross-disciplinary interests.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers three graduate degree programs: Master of Science, Master of Engineering: Mechanical, and Ph.D. All graduate programs offer considerable flexibility in course selection and specialization of study. While most incoming graduate students have a degree in mechanical engineering or other closely related fields of engineering, our graduate programs are also suitable for students with degrees in physics or mathematics. Students with a Bachelor's degree may opt to pursue a Ph.D. directly
