TOEFL
For those choosing to take the TOEFL, a minimum score on the paper-based TOEFL of 550, or 220 on the computer-based test, or _number:83 on the internet-based test is required for admission. (TOEFL waivers for admission purposes may be requested by applicants who have completed a four-year bachelor's degree at an English-speaking institution. If you plan to request such a waiver, you must select a back-up method of examination on the admission application in case your request is not approved. This should be a concise, well-written essay about your background and your reasons for pursuing graduate study in the field you have chosen. Selection committees place particular importance on the statement of purpose. It exhibits your ability to present ideas in clear, coherent language. Application fee $105 for domestic applicants, $125 for international applicants. Pay by credit card or electronic check.
RL
Three letters of recommendation. Must be submitted electronically. Enter name and email of each recommender in the online application. Recommenders will automatically be sent a link and password. Paper, email or faxed letters will not be accepted.
Transcript
Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended after high school. Unofficial transcripts may be scanned and uploaded as a pdf to your application before you submit it. If you are admitted and accept admission, you must at that time mail official transcripts to: UCSC Graduate Application Processing, 1156 High St., Santa Cruz, CA 95064.
